The Mosque is close to the Clock Tower and Dolmabahçe Palace. It's not as big as the other Mosque but equally beautiful from the inside. I passed by at night and it was beautifully lit up.

An amazing palace built at the end of the time of the Sultans. The palace is built along European lines, with the requirements of Istanbul having some influence on the design. Soaring ceilings, gilt everywhere and a surfeit of drawing-rooms. Take Coffee on the terrace on the banks of the Bosporus. It will give you energy for the trip around the palace. A final flowering of the "old man of Europe" or a ridiculous waste of expense in a flagging empire? I'm on the side of those who chose to build this palace. It is an amazing building. Just to have been there as the boats landed at the edge of the Bosporus and walking up the steps to enter the Great hall, which could hold 2500 people, would have been an amazing sight. P.S. skip the gallery part of the ticket as there is little there that is worth the time.

I used to live in Istanbul. The mosques are countless. Many are magical, some ancient, plenty are neither. The Dolmabahce Mosque is a fairly modern structure, opened in 1855. As such it has a great location, on the Bosphorus, and a light, airy construction with slender minarets, similar to the mosque in Ortakoy (I think both were constructed by Armenian architects). You can visit the mosque (take your shoes off): it’s worth it to admire the light-filled interior. After visiting the mosque I recommend the next-door cafe on the waterfront where you can enjoy a stimulating tulip glass of cay (tea), admire the waves, and plan your next move. The Ortakoy Mosque also features in the Istanbul thriller “Palladium”, out in May 2022. I hope you found this review helpful.
