This monument stands beside the Dolmabahce Palace. There is another clock tower further down the road with the National Flag. Both have historically meanings.
This beautiful and intricate clock tower in front of Dolmabahce Palace gives a hint of what is inside. It is the largest palace in Turkey and has the world's largest ballroom. The size is overwhelming and you need at least 3 hours to see it inside. The upside is that there is a lot of beautiful rooms and furniture to see. The downside is that it is pricey to enter and NO PHOTOS ALLOWED INSIDE. You can see the tower and much of the grounds and palace building from the outside without charge. This palace is well off the beaten path, but easily reached by combination of tram and bus and a very short walk - the best way to travel in Istanbul anyway, due to traffic. DO NOT VISIT ON A RAINY DAY - Major drainage problems!
This four-sided clock tower is on the Dolmabahce Palace grounds by the Treasury Gate. It is almost 90 feet tall and has been on this site overlooking the Bosphorus since 1895. I found it to be very beautifully fitting to this area of the palace.
Such an amazingly beautiful clock tower. It sets the scene for when you are walking into the palace proper. A must see when going to the palace.
120TL entrance fee for the palace which I think is too much and very expensive for Turkey. You can see the tower at the entrance of the palace
